San Jose, California -- (Business Wire) -- Xilinx Corporation (NASDAQ: XLNX), a leader in adaptive computing, today launched the Versal HBM Adaptive Computing Acceleration Platform (ACAP), the latest series of Versal investment portfolios. The Versal HBM series integrates fast memory, secure connections, and adaptive computing on a single platform. Versal HBM ACAPs integrate the most advanced HBM2e DRAM, providing a throughput of 820GB/s and a capacity of 32GB. Compared to DDR5 implementation, the memory bandwidth has increased by 8 times and power consumption has been reduced by 63%. The Versal HBM series is designed to meet the higher memory requirements of computationally intensive, memory limited applications such as data centers, wired networks, testing and measurement, as well as aerospace and defense.

Sumit Shah, Senior Director of Product Management and Marketing at Xilinx, said, "Many real-time, high-performance applications are severely constrained by memory bandwidth and run at the edge of their power and cooling limits. The Versal HBM series eliminates these bottlenecks and provides our customers with a solution that significantly improves performance, reduces system power consumption, latency, form factor, and total cost of ownership for data centers and network operators

High bandwidth, secure connection

The Versal HBM device is built upon the Versal Premium series and integrates a network core optimized for high bandwidth and secure connections. The Versal HBM series provides 5.6Tb/s serial bandwidth, 2.4Tb/s scalable Ethernet bandwidth, 1.2Tb/s line speed encryption throughput, 600Gb/s Interlaken connectivity, and 1.5Tb/s PCIe through a 112Gb/s PAM4 transceiver ® Fifth generation bandwidth, built-in DMA, supports CCIX and CXL. This extensive range of enhanced IPs provides ready-made, multi qubit network connections for various protocols, data rates, and optical standards, achieving optimal power and performance as well as the fastest time to market.

Adaptive computing

As an adaptive heterogeneous computing platform, the Versal HBM series aims to accelerate various workloads on large datasets, integrating adaptive engines for low latency hardware parallelism, DSP engines for artificial intelligence inference and signal processing, and scalar engines for embedded computing, platform management, secure boot, and configuration. Unlike fixed function accelerators, the Versal HBM series can dynamically reconfigure hardware within milliseconds to adapt to evolving algorithms and emerging protocols, without the need for hardware redesign and deployment.

Transforming Networks and Data Centers

The integration of adaptive computing with high bandwidth memory and multi TB connections makes next-generation cloud acceleration and secure networks a reality. Versal HBM ACAPs provide excellent performance and energy efficiency for big data workloads, including fraud detection, recommendation engines, database acceleration, data analysis, financial modeling, and deep learning inference for natural language processing (NLP). By increasing the running time by several orders of magnitude compared to modern server grade CPUs and supporting four times larger datasets, users can deploy applications with large-scale interconnected datasets using much fewer and lower cost servers.

Similarly, Versal HBM ACAPs provide network scalability and performance for 800G routers, switches, and security devices. The traditional network processing unit (NPU) implementation of the 800G next-generation firewall requires multiple NPU devices and DDR modules, while a single Versal HBM ACAP eliminates external memory and performs packet processing, security processing, and adaptive artificial intelligence anomaly detection with extremely low power consumption and minimal form factor. This series enables customers to implement their applications with fewer devices and systems, saving cloud and network providers a significant amount of capital and operational expenses.

Both hardware and software developers can access Versal HBM ACAPs, which provides a design entry point for any developer, including Vivado ® Design suite for hardware developers, grape genus ™ The unified software platform is designed for software developers and data scientists with specific domain frameworks and acceleration libraries.

Effectiveness

The Versal HBM series is built on a production validated 7-nanometer foundation with floral lettering devices. Developers can easily migrate from the Universal Premium Series devices and evaluation boards to the Versal HBM series. The Versal HBM series will begin sampling in the first half of 2022. The document is now available, and the tool will be available in the second half of 2021 through an early access plan.
